Chatamari is one of the most popular dishes in Newari cuisine, prepared using a thin rice flour batter spread onto a hot griddle. Once cooked, it is topped with ingredients such as minced buffalo meat, eggs, onions, tomatoes, coriander, and aromatic spices.
Unlike Western pizza, Chatamari has a light, crispy base that allows the fresh toppings to shine. Vegetarian versions with mushrooms, paneer, or seasonal vegetables are also widely enjoyed.
Originally served during religious festivals and family celebrations, Chatamari has evolved into a favorite dish found in cafés and traditional restaurants throughout Kathmandu Valley.
Served with spicy tomato or sesame achar, Chatamari perfectly reflects the creativity and rich flavors of Newari cooking.
