{"id":85,"date":"2017-01-13T05:43:13","date_gmt":"2017-01-13T05:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/demo.aarambhathemes.com\/super-blog-pro\/?p=85"},"modified":"2026-05-27T08:54:38","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T08:54:38","slug":"steven-gerrard-to-be-awarded-freedom-of-the-city-of-liverpool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/demo.aarambhathemes.com\/super-blog-pro\/steven-gerrard-to-be-awarded-freedom-of-the-city-of-liverpool\/","title":{"rendered":"Steven Gerrard to be awarded Freedom of the City of Liverpool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"post-synopsis synopsis\">Steven Gerrard is set to receive the Freedom of the City of Liverpool.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>The Reds legend is to be awarded the city\u2019s highest civic honour in recognition of his contribution to national and international football, as well as his charity work in helping disadvantaged children across the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Gerrard has been nominated by the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, and it\u2019s expected to be formally agreed at a city council meeting on January 18, with the freedom ceremony to take place later in the year.<\/p>\n<p>The former Liverpool No.8 said: \u201cI was stunned and overwhelmed when I heard my name was being put forward by the Mayor to receive this honour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiverpool is my home city and so to be acknowledged in this way leaves me speechless. To even think about getting such an award makes me feel very humble and of course immensely proud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Anderson added: \u201cThe Freedom of Liverpool is a special honour and one which we award only to exceptional individuals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSteven has had a fantastic career and is widely regarded as one of the most successful midfielders of his generation. But it\u2019s not just his sporting excellence which has made him the icon he is today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you\u2019re a Red or Blue, I\u2019m sure everyone will agree he is a fantastic ambassador for the city and his charity work has made a huge difference to thousands of young people, particularly disadvantaged children in Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSteven is an inspirational figure for young and old alike and I\u2019m delighted to be able to recommend to council that we make this award for everything he has given to our city.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Steven Gerrard is set to receive the Freedom of the City of Liverpool.
